ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Where are the "aireteras", the "heiresses" who, in medieval Occitania, had the right to inherit the family land by virtue of their birthright and without any other consideration related to their gender? These inspiring female figures are the embodiment of resistance, of strong women.

Constructed as an ode to women, this programme, "Tèrra-Maïre", is a musical journey through the female figure from the Middle Ages to the present day. Both sociologically and symbolically, women evoke our roots, those of Mother Earth, but also life, birth, struggle and courage. And all this is conveyed in music.

This artistic creation also highlights the music of our time, with Caroline Marçot's 'Nigra Sum'. As part of its drive to renew its repertoire, the ensemble has commissioned three world premieres based on the theme of mother earth: 'Ama Lur' by composer Emmanuelle Da Costa, followed by 'Jòi' and 'Ombritat' composed by the project's two conductors.

With Pascal Caumont, a musician specialising in the traditional repertoire, Dulci Jubilo explores the poems of troubadour women, combined with sacred and secular Occitan and Catalan polyphonic songs. These traditional songs are combined with key polyphonic collections from the Middle Ages, such as the 'Las Huelgas' manuscript and the 'Cantigas de Santa Maria'.

"Terra-Maïre" is a musical dialogue with works from the past and the present, with the ambition of beauty, emotion and the intimate expression of our senses, paying homage to all women, from the medieval "domna" to the "aireteras" of modern times.
